A History of Excellence and Inventiveness
In 1872, B.P. De Silva, the founder of the eponymous Group, emigrated from Ceylon to Singapore to launch his jewellery business. Within twenty years the Company was recognized as the most successful jeweller in Singapore and was patronised by royalty.
In 1951, headquarters were moved back to Ceylon. Over the years, the Company had acquired the agencies for Omega and Tissot watches. In 1954 the firm purchased Storch Brothers, a
Kuala Lumpur based company retailing in jewellery and watches,
and a few years later a subsidiary company, named Silva Royal was created, to cater to the needs of selling watches on a wholesale basis.
In 1978 Shingold was established to manufacture and export branded jewellery. A year later In-Ads was formed to handle the advertising and promotional requirements of the B.P. De Silva Group.
In 1979 the organisation ventured into the tea industry, with the incorporation of Tea Tang, one of the fastest growing subsidiaries
in the Group.
Today, the B.P. De Silva’s has showrooms in Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. The Group also retails premium cosmetics in
Sri Lanka. The Tea Division has further expanded with the addition of the 1872 Clipper Tea Company based in Singapore and Capital Suisse Asia Teas, and the establishment of Tea Tech Services –
a state-of-the-art tea cleaning and blending plant.
